RLSS National Rescue Award for Teachers and Coaches (N.R.A.S.T.C), This award is specifically for people who are involved with teaching, coaching or assisting with programmed swimming sessions.

This is the course the Amateur Swimming Association recommend for qualified ASA Swimming Teachers and Coaches.

Course structure

• The course takes one day and can be run at your pool
• You may have up to 12 people on it
• The minimum age for attending is 16
• You only need to be able to swim 20m on your front and 20m on your back and be able to go underwater to the bottom of the pool. Your certificate will state the depth you are qualified to go to

There are 3 elements:

• First Aid & CPR theory and practice
• Safety, class management & organization
• Practical water rescues

You are given a course handbook at the start of the course.

The course is assessed by an independent assessor.

The qualification lasts for 2 years and you receive a certificate if successful.
